About the Role
The Lumber Yard Logistics and Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient movement, storage, and inventory control of lumber and building materials. This role ensures accurate inventory levels, coordinates outgoing shipments, optimizes yard operations, and maintains a safe, organized work environment. The manager works closely with the Lumber and Building Material (LBM) desk, sales, drivers, and yard personnel to ensure customer orders are fulfilled accurately and on time.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Order & Delivery Coordination
· Coordinate and prepare orders for deliveries including in-store portion of orders.
· Scheduling all deliveries in an efficient and timely manner.
· Organize all outgoing deliveries and directing all drivers with load timing and method of delivery.
· Facilitate all orders for pick up or delivery: picked and ready per schedule.
· Prepare lumber orders and delegate work with LBM team.
· Pre-counting and organizing all outgoing deliveries before loading trucks.
· Assist transportation yard maintenance manager in truck and equipment maintenance.
· Schedule Incoming Orders.
· Assist in Yard and Driveway Snow Removal.
· Backup to Customer Service Lead when required
LBM Yard Management Responsibilities
· Keep lumberyard clean and organized, including all engineered wood products.
· Monthly inventory checking of LBM products, especially fast moving items.
· Assist in special events that involve the LBM yard and LBM sales staff requests
· Unloading LBM stock deliveries and putting away stock correctly and in a timely fashion
· Account, document and organize all customer LBM returns and jobsite returns
· Assist LBM Customer Service Manager in stocking all incoming Home Hardware products
· Assist LBM Customer Service Manager with organizing, labeling and stocking all incoming special orders (ex. Maybec, Vic West, etc.)
· Work every other Saturday during the peak season
· Help with LBM Staff at contractor shows and contractor breakfasts, garden shows, parades, etc.
· Taking on “Special Projects” as agreed upon by owners.
· Treat customers like “you” want to be treated.
· Communicate inventory needs and challenges to Lumber Desk and Operations Manager.
· Cycle count Yard and Warehouse three times a year and regular stocktaking of inventory.
· Resolve ongoing staffing concerns and HR issues with Operations Manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in retail sales or managing employees.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced and constantly changing retail environment.
- Ability to train and motivate other staff as needed. Pull instead of pushing, lead by example.
- Organizational skills.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Motivated, self-disciplined individual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to listen and understand customer needs.
- Leadership skills in sales, inventory control and customer service.
- Enjoy working in a team environment.
- Enjoy working outdoors in various climate conditions.
- Strong family values are essential.
Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour
