SUMMARY
Reporting into the Engineering Manager, the CAD Technician is responsible for supporting civil infrastructure design and surveying operations by producing accurate design and as-built drawings using Civil 3D. This role plays a critical part in translating field data and engineering inputs into high-quality deliverables and works closely with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to project timelines.
PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, alignments, profiles, and surfaces for civil infrastructure projects using Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Process, analyze, and integrate field survey data (points, surfaces, and legal boundaries) into design models.
- Draft, update, and finalize accurate as-built drawings based on redlines and field-verified data for various municipal and private applications.
- Assist the surveying team with data management, coordinate conversions, and preparation of base plans.
- Maintain and enforce company CAD standards, layering conventions, and drafting templates.
- Perform quality control checks on drawings to ensure compliance with project specifications and municipal guidelines.
- Coordinate with project engineers and managers to incorporate design changes and revisions efficiently.
- Manage and organize digital drawing files and project documentation within the company ecosystem.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Architectural/Engineering Drafting, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of proven experience working as a CAD/Design Technician on civil infrastructure projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D (corridors, grading, pipe networks, and surface creation).
- Strong understanding of surveying methodologies, coordinate systems, and how to interpret field notes/data.
- Demonstrated experience in creating detailed, submission-ready as-built drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with both field and office teams.
- Experience working on Toronto-area municipal infrastructure, transit, or utility projects.
- Knowledge of GIS data integration or MicroStation (asset).
- Familiarity with point cloud data processing or 3D scanning software.
- Primarily an office-based or hybrid role with computer-intensive design tasks.
- Occasional site visits may be required to coordinate with the survey team or verify field conditions.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Expected Base Salary: $22.00 - $27.00 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations.
