Employment Consultant / Job Developer
The WorkPlace Group, a division of The Special Needs Employment Service Inc., is recruiting for an Employment Consultant / Job Developer to join our team in Sarnia-Lambton.
Job Type: This position is contract to cover a maternity leave, starting July 2026, and can last between 14-18 months with a possibility of extension.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (37.5 hours per week)
Rate of Pay: $24–$28 per hour, based on experience
Position Summary
The Employment Consultant / Job Developer supports job seekers in developing personalized employment action plans and building the skills, confidence, and connections needed to achieve their employment goals.
This role is primarily focused on employment counselling and client support, including goal setting, barrier identification, resume and interview preparation, referrals, and ongoing employment coaching. The position also includes a job development component, where staff assist clients in exploring job opportunities, navigating the local labour market, and developing strategies for employer outreach and networking.
The successful candidate will work with a diverse client population, including individuals experiencing barriers to employment, and will provide supportive, client-centered service designed to help individuals successfully enter or re-enter the workforce.
Key Responsibilities
Employment Consulting & Client Support:
- · Provide individualized employment counselling and support to unemployed and underemployed clients.
- · Assist clients in identifying employment goals, strengths, barriers, and support needs.
- · Develop and maintain Employment Action Plans with clear goals and next steps.
- · Support clients with resume development, cover letters, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
- · Provide guidance on workplace expectations, communication skills, confidence building, and employment readiness.
- · Connect clients with appropriate community programs, services, training opportunities, and external supports.
- · Maintain accurate client documentation, case notes, and service records within internal and Ministry databases.
- · Conduct regular follow-ups with clients to monitor progress and provide ongoing support.
- · Assist clients in accessing Employment Ontario programs, financial supports, and other available services.
- · Facilitate or support workshops, group sessions, or employment-related activities as needed.
Job Development & Employment Support
- · Share relevant employment opportunities and employer leads with clients based on their goals and experience.
- · Support clients in developing employer outreach, networking, and self-marketing skills.
- · Assist clients in preparing for employer interactions and applications.
- · Build and maintain positive relationships with local employers and community partners.
- · Stay informed on local labour market trends, hiring needs, and community resources.
- · Provide employment retention support to clients and employers when needed.
- · Support workplace accommodations and problem-solving strategies where appropriate.
- · Identify opportunities for short-term work experience placements and job carving positions.
Administrative & Team Responsibilities
- · Ensure client files, statistics, and documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- · Participate in staff meetings, training opportunities, and ongoing professional development.
- · Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies and ethical standards.
- · Contribute ideas to improve service delivery, client experience, and team processes.

Qualifications
- · Post-secondary education in Social Services, Human Services, Career Development, or a related field is preferred
- · Social Service Worker (SSW) diploma or related education is considered an asset
- · Experience providing employment counselling, coaching, or client support is preferred
- · Experience working with diverse populations and individuals facing barriers to employment is an asset
- · Experience in customer service, case management, or community services is considered beneficial
- · A valid G Drivers Licence, and access to a reliable vehicle during working hours with valid insurance.
- · The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the organization, confirming no criminal convictions, outstanding charges, or other relevant findings that would impact suitability for the role.
