Job Overview
The Regulatory Specialist reports to the Manager, Lands Regulation and is responsible for conducting technical assessments of land, water, and resource use applications within Tłıchǫ lands and Mǫwhì Gogha Dè Nııtłèè. The position reviews mining and development proposals, prepares technical recommendations, coordinates regulatory and public review processes, monitors compliance with permits and agreements, and provides advice on legislation and resource management. Working closely with communities, government agencies, and industry, the Regulatory Specialist supports responsible land stewardship while ensuring regulatory requirements, environmental protection, and Tłıchǫ interests are upheld throughout development activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and maintain regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement regulatory strategies that support business objectives.
- Lead initiatives related to process improvement to enhance efficiency and compliance across operations.
- Manage projects related to regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections.
- Provide guidance and training to team members on regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Monitor changes in regulations and communicate updates to relevant departments.
- Support business development efforts by ensuring new products or services meet all regulatory standards.
- Supervise junior staff or team members involved in regulatory activities, fostering a culture of quality and compliance.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in civil, environmental or mine engineering, environmental science, management or equivalent • Ability to work collaboratively with Elders, community members, and multidisciplinary teams • Experience with land use planning, GIS, mapping systems, GPS, or spatial data applications • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to prepare reports and present technical information clearly • Conduct technical assessments of land, water, and resource use applications and prepare recommendations • Coordinate public reviews and consultations with communities, governments, and stakeholders regarding development proposals • Monitor compliance with land use permits, water licences, and access agreements, and recommend corrective actions when required • Familiarity with Tłıchǫ culture, language, land-based activities, is considered an asset
Pay: $75,589.59-$85,599.04 per year
