Job Summary
Blue Macaw Catering Inc. is a growing, high-end catering company operating throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
We are expanding our culinary roster and are currently hiring Event & Prep Cooks who can support both kitchen production and offsite event execution.
Our prep kitchen is located at Commissary Kitchen in Delta, and events take place at various venues across the region.
This is a casual, event-based role with flexible hours.
Duties
- Prepare ingredients and components for menu items, including chopping, slicing, and measuring
- Assist in cooking and assembling dishes according to recipes and presentation standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, adhering to food safety protocols
- Handle food with care to prevent contamination and ensure freshness
- Support the kitchen team during busy service hours by efficiently managing meal prep tasks
- Follow all health and safety regulations to uphold a safe working environment
- Ensure proper storage of ingredients and leftovers, rotating stock as needed
- Assist with inventory management and restocking supplies as required
Experience
- Previous experience in food preparation or as a line cook is preferred but not required; training will be provided
- Knowledge of serving, food handling, and food safety standards is advantageous
- Experience working in a restaurant or food service environment is desirable
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and meal preparation techniques within the food industry is beneficial
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong understanding of hygiene practices related to food safety and sanitation standards
Pay Structure
Compensation is based on experience:
- Entry Level (minimal experience): $18/hr
- Intermediate (some catering/kitchen experience): $20–$22/hr
- Senior / Sous Chef Level: Up to $25/hr
Wage determined after interview and/or trial shift.
Responsibilities
Prep Kitchen (Delta):
- Food prep and batch production
- Organization and labeling
- Assisting Chef with event preparation
- Cleaning and maintaining workspace
Event Execution (Venues):
- Plating and finishing dishes
- Following event timelines
- Supporting load-in and breakdown
- Maintaining quality standards under pressure
Important Requirements
- Must be available evenings and weekends
- Must be comfortable working late hours (events may end at 12–1AM)
- Must have reliable transportation (some venues are not transit accessible late at night)
- Food Safe Level 1 required
- Ability to lift and carry equipment
