Job Description:
- Oversee tooling supplier APQP activities, including die design reviews, build timelines, cost control, and technical compliance, while driving cost reduction, productivity improvements, and die life optimization initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments (e.g., TRAM, Purchasing, Production, Quality, and Program Teams) in the selection and sourcing of qualified metal forming and stamping tool suppliers, both locally and globally.
- Lead the sourcing, technical evaluation, and performance assessment of new and existing stamping tool vendors to ensure capability, quality, and long-term sustainability.
- Develop, maintain, and release standardized RFQ packages in coordination with Purchasing for all stamping tooling requirements, including new program dies, production tooling, engineering changes, and major die refurbishments.
- Support and participate in local supplier die tryouts, ensuring tooling readiness and qualification prior to first-article approval and Customer pre-production launch builds.
- Lead and support tooling and component qualification activities, including design reviews, process validation, capability studies as required.
- Develop and communicate detailed tooling development schedules, progress reports, and risk assessments to internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and program team members.
- Conduct regular tooling follow-ups and on-site supplier visits, documenting progress, risks, and action items through formal contact and status reports.
- Maintain accurate tooling schedules, tracking systems, and documentation to ensure all dies and components are fully released and production-ready.
- Support supplier stamping operations through die tryouts, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of forming, dimensional, and capability issues.
- Lead and coordinate tooling modifications, improvements, and corrective actions with external suppliers to address quality, performance, and production concerns.
- Investigate and recommend design, material, and process improvements for problematic stamping tools across both new and existing programs.
- Develop, document, and deploy standardized methods, internal tooling standards, and best practices for metal forming tools to be used as supplier requirements for new die builds.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies, software, and processes to enhance RFQ development, tooling specifications, target, pricing, lead times, process control, and overall stamping component quality.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized Canadian university.
- 3–5 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of complex, high-precision metal stamping tooling, preferably within the automotive industry.
- Demonstrated automotive industry experience, with a strong understanding of high-volume production and quality requirements.
- Proficiency in CAD and forming simulation software such as SolidWorks, Cimatron, AutoForm, or equivalent tools, along with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Advanced working knowledge of GD&T, measurement techniques, material behavior, and metal forming processes and simulations.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain effective business relationships with a diverse base of global tooling and component suppliers.
- This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid Ontario issued driver’s license and passport. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid Ontario issued driver’s license and passport upon being hired.
- This position requires the Associate to leave TRQSS in support of technical issues with outside tooling/metal forming vendors
- When required, the Associate may be required to put forth the effort required to complete the task associated with his responsibilities which at times requires staying past his normal shift or coming in during odd hours of the day.

Pay: $73,934.00-$112,252.00 per year
