The Shift Supervisor is responsible for producing and meeting expected volume and quality targets. This position represents plant management on back shifts and weekends and is accountable for ensuring safe operation within the plant. There is also responsibility to inform company management of any serious issues.
Location: Brantford
Shift: 6:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m (Mon to Fri).; schedule may include Saturdays based on operational requirements.
What will you do?
- Start up lines and ensure good quality of product.
- Complete changeovers as planned by the Production Coordinator.
- Monitor and record extruder temperatures.
- Perform chlorine checks, record and adjust chlorine levels as per policy.
- Responsible for training direct reports and ensure there is a clear understanding of the work assignments while ensuring optimum use of skills and monitoring against same.
- Assign people their daily work assignments and reassign people to different jobs as work changes.
- Monitor breaks, job rotation and attendance for optimal team effectiveness.
- Responsible for effectively implementing & resolving situations where standards are not being met, regarding discipline, absenteeism, performance, progression, etc.
- Communicate personnel issues to management for resolution.
- Demonstrate and promote a high degree of team spirit.
- Maintain & improve work standards to ensure the highest level of professionalism and maximum productivity while minimizing all forms of waste (material, time, dollars).
- Conduct performance assessments and skills assessments for their employees.
- Report any problems encountered throughout the shift to the Production Coordinator and ensure communication to the following shift including equipment problems.
- Alert Management and/or Maintenance of anything that needs attention regarding personnel, plant, or machinery.
- Effective troubleshooting and determining the root cause of issues.
- Proper documentation and labels of materials generated (regrind) or residual to be returned to warehouse.
- Accountable for the safety of all shift personnel, ensuring safe work practices and adherence to plant safety rules and policies.
- Accountable to investigate all injuries and/or safety incidents and communicate suggested corrective actions.
- Accountable to investigate and communicate to management all injuries requiring medical treatment and/or resulting in lost time as well as safety concerns. Serious incidents will be investigated with management involvement.
- Participate in aspects of Stone’s H&S Management System.
- Responsible for plant security on back shifts and weekends.
- Ensure customer requirements are fully understood and met.
- Correct quality issues in a responsive manner and report to management as necessary.
- Ensure optimum machine speeds, maintain tight material controls.
- Ensure plant work areas are kept clean and orderly thus avoiding unsafe conditions.
- Compliant fully with sanitation procedures, GMP’s, Food safety and other regulatory audit requirements.
- Must be competent in Food Safety – FDA Food Safety 101 on-line course.
