Job Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for managing the operations of the Shipping Department during the evening shift, while ensuring a high level of occupational health and safety (OHS), quality, and operational efficiency.
The incumbent will supervise a team of approximately 10 unionized employees, a team expected to grow in the coming months. The role plays a key part in planning, work allocation, and employee engagement within a Lean manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, coach, and motivate the shipping team to ensure priorities and deadlines are met.
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety rules.
- Manage daily workforce activities, including attendance, replacements, performance monitoring, training, and disciplinary actions as required.
- Participate in the onboarding and development of new employees.
- Coordinate shipping and receiving activities based on production needs.
- Maintain departmental production and performance reports.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities and contribute to process optimization.
- Foster a positive work environment based on respect, communication, and collaboration.
Work Schedule:
- Evening shift: Monday to Friday, 3:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. (start time may be adjusted based on operational needs).
- Day shift training at the start of employment.
Qualifications:
- College diploma (DEC) or bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Transportation Logistics, or a related field;
- 3 to 5 years of experience supervising staff in a unionized environment;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, initiative, sense of responsibility, teamwork, attention to detail, and accuracy;
- Excellent leadership, positive attitude, good listening skills, and sound judgment;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and strong stress tolerance;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software;
- Knowledge of SAP and Dayforce is considered an asset;
- Good knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations;
- Bilingual in English and French, both spoken and written, to facilitate communication with internal and external English-speaking stakeholders.
