The Shop Operations Technician plays a key role in supporting daily shop and yard operations. Working alongside Millwrights, Welders, and Heavy Duty Mechanics, this position ensures that materials, equipment, and work areas are maintained safely and efficiently. The role provides hands-on assistance with shipping and receiving, equipment operation, mechanical support tasks, and general labour duties required to keep shop operations running smoothly. This position contributes directly to productivity, safety, and workflow by maintaining an organized work environment, supporting technicians with mechanical tasks, and ensuring timely movement of materials, tools, and equipment.
Primary Functions
In general, but not limited to:
Load, unload stock, products
Operate various equipment performing maintenance duties – Loader, forklift, skid-steer and light duty vehicles
Oversee yard storage
Delivering toolboxes to and from sites
Orders picking, shipping and receiving
Lifts heavy objects more than 50 pounds and climb ladders or stairs to perform duties of the position
Clean and maintain yard/shop work area and follows all safety rules and practices
Assist technicians with assembly and testing when required
Move waste from working area of yard to dumpsters
Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, rules and guidelines
Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in professional, courteous, respectful, ethical manner with clients, co-workers and supervisors
Support the Mechanics and Machinists in the shop as needed
Other duties may be assigned as needed
Critical Qualifications & Skills:
General knowledge of maintenance industry (preferred)
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Valid class 5 driver’s license
Responsible with strong work ethic, integrity, and reliability
Manual dexterity required for operating machinery
Organized and punctual
Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, standing, and handling materials
Ability to work independently and as a team
Ability to work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment

Overhead Crane & Rigging Certificate
