As a member of the growing team, the General Labourer is a vital role to ensure that plant health is monitored and maintained according to Health Canada Regulations and Operational Requirements. Reporting to the Operations Manager or designate, this role requires the applicant to be detail oriented and a self-starter that can work with a diverse team of professionals.
The * General Labourer *position is part of a highly skilled, highly motivated group that requires an eye for quality in each step of the growing process. Indoor Nursery and Greenhouse Workers are responsible for following the defined operation standards that support the processing of live plants and flower product. With an eye for quality and ability to work quickly and efficiently, team members ensure that the harvested products meet strict quality requirements.
This position is based out of Kingsville, Ontario.
Job Duties:
- Maintaining compliance with the Cannabis Act during harvesting
- Cutting/pruning and transplanting plants
- Removing leaves from live plants
- Cutting of flowers from the branches during harvest
- Shucking
- Composting plant waste and debris as part of the harvesting process
- Potting and re-potting plants, Plant Support [clipping, trellising]
- Reporting signs of insect or disease damage
- May operate equipment to fertilize, cultivate, harvest and spray plants
- Cleaning working area (production room) and related equipment (pots, stakes etc)
- Must be available Monday to Saturday
- Perform stick cutting and other production tasks as directed.
- Detect and report all plant health and pest problems.
Requirements:
- Ability to easily identify various plant varieties.
- Good observation skills to detect disease and pests.
- Ability to follow safe procedures for use of fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides.
- Basic reading, writing and computer skills.
- Moderate physical strength and stamina.
- Able to get along with customers at the workplace or in other locations.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing.
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities. Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Able to work well under pressure. Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Criminal record check is mandatory
Your Environment:
- 24/7 availability may be required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75lb.
- Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
- Hazards associated with the trade.
- Work both indoors and outdoors.
- Noisy with fumes.
- Long hours which may entail 12 hours or more per working day.
- Conditions in the greenhouse may be hot and humid in the summer. Outdoor work may also be required.
- Prolonged standing, walking, lifting, squatting and bending.
