Are you a disciplined culinarian with a passion for leadership and high-volume excellence? Veranda is looking for a talented Sous Chef to help lead our Back of House team and maintain the highest standards of food quality and kitchen efficiency.
The Opportunity
As our Sous Chef, you are the "right hand" to the Executive Chef. You will be responsible for the daily pulse of the kitchen, ensuring that every plate meets our standards while mentoring a team of dedicated cooks. This is a role for a leader who leads by example—someone who isn't afraid to jump on the line during a rush and can command the kitchen with respect and clarity.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Excellence: Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring prep lists are completed and stations are service-ready.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor line cooks and prep staff; manage scheduling and performance.
- Quality Control: Maintain rigorous standards for food garnishing, seasoning, and temperature for every dish.
- Inventory & Cost Control: Assist with ordering, inventory counts, and waste management to hit food cost targets.
- Sanitation & Safety: Ensure the kitchen exceeds all health department standards and maintains a "clean as you go" culture.
- Menu Collaboration: Work with the Executive Chef on seasonal menu development and specials.
What You Bring
- Experience: minimum of 3 years of experience in a high-volume, scratch kitchen, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Technical Skill: Quality knife skills and mastery across all kitchen stations
- Leadership: A "cool under fire" mentality and the ability to motivate a diverse team during high-pressure shifts.
- Business Acumen: Understanding and skill in food/labor cost management.
- Certification: Current Food Safe Certification

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
