AppleTown Dental Centre is looking for a Registered Dental Assistant to join our growing clinical team in Berwick, in the heart of Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley.
We are a busy, modern dental practice with a strong patient-centred philosophy, an excellent team environment, and a commitment to providing high-quality dentistry using contemporary technology and digital workflows.
This position is somewhat different from a traditional single-dentist assisting role. While the successful candidate will perform the regular clinical duties expected of a Registered Dental Assistant, a significant part of the position will involve working as a second chairside assistant for sedation dentistry, dental implant treatment, oral surgery and other advanced procedures.
The RDA will also help manage our overflow treatment chair, allowing us to provide timely care for emergency patients, post-operative assessments, prosthetic deliveries and other shorter clinical appointments.
This is an excellent opportunity for an RDA who enjoys variety, likes working as part of a strong clinical team, and is interested in expanding their experience with sedation, implant dentistry, oral surgery and digital dental technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide chairside assistance to dentists during general restorative and other routine dental procedures
- Work as a second clinical assistant during sedation, implant and surgical procedures
- Prepare operatories, instruments, surgical setups and materials for advanced dental procedures
- Assist with patient preparation, clinical documentation and sedation-related workflows in accordance with training, office protocols and professional scope of practice
- Help coordinate patient care before, during and following surgical and sedation appointments
- Manage appropriate appointments in the overflow operatory, including dental emergencies, post-operative checks, deliveries and other shorter clinical procedures
- Take digital radiographs and other diagnostic records within the RDA scope of practice
- Assist with digital impressions/intraoral scanning and other components of our digital dental workflow
- Maintain accurate clinical records and support clear communication between the dentist, patient and other members of the clinical team
- Follow current infection prevention, sterilization and clinical safety protocols
- Prepare, clean and maintain treatment rooms, instruments and clinical equipment
- Help maintain appropriate clinical and surgical supplies and identify inventory needs
- Provide patients with clear pre-operative and post-operative instructions as directed by the dentist
- Help create a calm, professional and supportive experience for patients, particularly those who may be anxious about dental treatment or undergoing sedation
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program
- Current licence/registration in good standing with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Dentistry and Dental Assisting (NSRDDA)
- Current CPR certification and all other requirements necessary to practise as an RDA in Nova Scotia
- Strong chairside assisting and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to patient care
- Comfortable working in a busy clinical environment and moving between different types of appointments throughout the day
- Dependable, organized and able to anticipate the needs of the dentist and clinical team
- Previous experience with oral surgery, implant dentistry or sedation is an asset, but not necessarily required for the right candidate — training can be provided
- Experience with digital dentistry, intraoral scanning and modern dental technology is also an asset
