Job Overview
Our corporation operates supportive recovery homes for men in Nanaimo, BC. Our program is 12-step based and is designed to provide structure, accountability, community, and practical support for men transitioning from treatment into long-term recovery.
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and organized Recovery House Manager to work between our two recovery homes located in Nanaimo, BC. This is a hands-on role that requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, clear boundaries, and the ability to support men in early recovery while maintaining a safe, respectful, and accountable living environment.
The successful candidate will be comfortable leading daily check-ins, supporting residents one-on-one, helping residents follow individualized plans, maintaining house structure, and ensuring both homes remain clean, organized, and well-maintained.
This is not a clinical counselling or nursing position. The role is focused on day-to-day recovery house operations, resident accountability, peer-style support, communication, and maintaining a healthy recovery-focused environment.
Responsibilities
The Recovery House Manager will be responsible for:
- Facilitating daily resident check-in groups.
- Completing regular one-on-one check-ins with residents.
- Supporting residents in following individualized recovery plans, schedules, chores, appointments, and program expectations.
- Helping maintain a structured, respectful, recovery-focused house culture.
- Holding residents accountable to house rules, curfews, chores, meeting attendance, and other program requirements.
- Preparing and updating resident schedules, chore lists, and house routines.
- Completing daily, weekly, and monthly house checklists.
- Ensuring both homes are clean, organized, safe, and properly maintained.
- Identifying maintenance issues and communicating them promptly.
- Purchasing household supplies, cleaning supplies, and other program-related items as needed.
- Supporting resident transitions into the program and helping new residents understand expectations.
- Communicating professionally with residents, staff, ownership, treatment centres, funders, families, and other referral sources as needed.
- Assisting with basic administrative tasks, including documentation, emails, phone calls, incident notes, and resident updates.
- Working collaboratively with part-time staff and contractors.
- Responding appropriately to conflict, behavioural concerns, relapse concerns, or other house issues.
- Performing other duties as required to support the smooth operation of the homes.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong understanding of 12-step recovery principles and recovery house living.
- Experience working with individuals in early recovery, addiction recovery, mental health, supportive housing, treatment, peer support, or a related field.
- Ability to maintain healthy boundaries while being supportive and compassionate.
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Reliability, maturity, and good judgment.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Comfort working with men in early recovery.
- Ability to hold residents accountable in a calm, respectful, and consistent manner.
- Basic computer and email skills.
- Ability to manage checklists, schedules, house routines, and basic documentation.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle preferred.
- Current First Aid, Naloxone training, mental health/addictions training, or related certifications are assets.
- Satisfactory reference checks and criminal record check will be required.

Work Location
This position will work between both Next Step Recovery homes in Nanaimo, BC
The role may involve occasional errands, supply runs, and communication with external parties.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. The schedule may include daytime hours, some evenings, and occasional weekend requirements depending on operational needs.
Compensation
$25–$30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
