McNair Electric is seeking an experienced and meticulous AVIT Smart Home Technician to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of high-end residential systems, including sophisticated audio-video (AV), robust IT networking, and advanced smart home automation. The ideal candidate will blend strong IT networking fundamentals with expertise in modern AV integration, focusing on delivering a superior client experience.
Core Responsibilities System Deployment & Configuration
- Install, configure, and commission residential AV systems, encompassing dedicated home theaters, distributed audio/video solutions, and outdoor entertainment areas.
- Specialized focus on installing, programming, and commissioning Lutron control systems, including lighting (e.g., RadioRA 3, HomeWorks) and automated motorized shades.
- Deploy and configure high-performance residential IT networks (routers, switches, WAPs), ensuring reliable connectivity for all smart home devices.
- Integrate and program core smart home automation platforms (e.g., Control4, Crestron, Savant).
- Execute professional-grade structured cabling, wire management, and equipment rack construction.
- Install and integrate various sub-systems, such as security cameras (CCTV), access control, and HVAC integration.
Service & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and efficiently resolve technical issues across hardware, software, and network components, providing both on-site and remote support.
- Conduct routine system updates, maintenance, and comprehensive testing to ensure optimal performance (including shade alignment and keypad configuration updates).
- Perform thorough post-installation quality assurance checks.
Client Experience & Documentation
- Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a professional demeanor while working in high-end private residences.
- Thoroughly educate clients on the operation of their new systems, including using lighting scenes and shade controls.
- Maintain precise project documentation, including IP logs, wiring schematics, and daily progress reports.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years of verified experience in AV installation, IT networking, or smart home automation.
- Lutron/Shade Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience with wiring, installation, and programming of automated lighting and motorized window treatments (specifically Lutron products).
- Networking: Strong foundational knowledge of IP networks, including subnetting, VLANs, and robust Wi-Fi deployment strategies.
- Technical Cabling Proficiency: Skilled in terminating various low-voltage cables (Cat6, Coax, speaker wire, fiber optics).
- Tools & Safety: Proficiency and safety in using both hand and power tools.
- Professional Attributes: Excellent problem-solving capabilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a high degree of discretion.
- Prerequisites: Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass a mandatory background check.
Preferred Skills
- Industry Certifications: Lutron Certifications (e.g., Shading Solutions, RadioRA, HomeWorks), CEDIA certifications (e.g., Cabling & Infrastructure Technician), or IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+).
- Platform Experience: Direct programming or installation experience with Control4, Crestron, Savant, or Ubiquiti.
- Reading Schematics: Ability to accurately read and interpret architectural blueprints and complex wiring diagrams.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and safely carry equipment up to [e.g., 50 lbs].
- Comfortable working in varying conditions, including on ladders, in attics, and in crawl spaces (especially for high-bay lighting and shade mounting).
- Required flexibility for occasional evening or weekend work based on project demands.
