Pattison High School is a well-established independent high school located in downtown Vancouver since 2003. At Pattison High School, our motto is " we do not teach a class; we teach individual students in a class".
We are seeking qualified teachers for the following two positions:
1. English Studies 12 Summer School Teacher
Term: July 2 – August 12
Schedule: 3.5 hours per day
Course: English Studies 12
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver the English Studies 12 curriculum in alignment with BC Ministry of Education guidelines
- Design engaging lessons that support diverse learners and promote critical thinking, reading, and writing skills
- Assess and evaluate student progress using varied assessment strategies
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student achievement
- Maintain accurate attendance, records, and reporting documentation
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration as needed
- Support students in completing course requirements within a condensed summer timeline
Qualifications:
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate
- Demonstrated experience teaching senior secondary English (Grade 12 preferred)
- Strong understanding of the BC English Language Arts curriculum
- Experience working with diverse learners and differentiated instruction
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in an intensive, fast-paced environment
2. English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher
Start Date: As soon as possible
Assignment: One teaching block a .25 teaching position
Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted English language instruction to ELL students at varying proficiency levels
- Develop and implement individualized and small-group instructional strategies
- Assess language proficiency and track student progress using appropriate tools
- Support classroom teachers in adapting curriculum and instruction for English language learners
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports cultural diversity
- Collaborate with staff, support services, and families to enhance student success
- Maintain student records, documentation, and reporting aligned with school expectations
Qualifications:
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate
- Specialized training or experience in ELL/ESL instruction
- Strong understanding of second language acquisition and culturally responsive teaching practices
- Experience supporting students with diverse linguistic and educational backgrounds
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
