You would be covering predictable relief needs such as sick time, leave of absences, education, vacation, and personal leave. At RGH, this role supports both Psychiatric Emergency Services and the Crisis Stabilization Unit. As a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in Addictions and Mental Health (AMH), you will gain valuable experience working with complex mental health conditions encountered across healthcare settings. This is a rewarding opportunity to help individuals achieve psychiatric stabilization and develop the skills needed to successfully reintegrate into their communities. As an RN/RPN you work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the in-patient acute psychiatric nursing unit, and the Emergency Department, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities. You provide excellence in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care developing strong skills in mental status assessment, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. You will develop your group facilitation skills as all nursing staff within AMH are responsible for facilitating and delivering group content to the patients.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
1-year AMH experience within the last 3 years with an FTE. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health site may be considered. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required. Working knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in AMH assessment tools including but not limited to the Mental Status Examination. Experience in various risk assessments: i.e., Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, Violence risk. Training and experience in therapeutic modalities such as Trauma Informed Care, CBT, DBT and/or other evidence-based modalities. As a nurse in this regularized relief float position, you will be working and covering in multiple units. You would be covering predictable relief needs such as sick time, leave of absences, education, vacation, and personal leave. At RGH, you would be covering for Psychiatric Emergency Services and the Crisis Stabilization Unit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Additionally, must have familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Nursing experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
