Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Support Services, the Cook is responsible for ensuring that clients receive meals and snacks as dictated by the menu. The Cook will endeavor to provide clients with a positive dining experience. The Cook will make certain that groceries and other necessities are available as determined by the menu. The Cook plays a vital part in supporting the health and wellbeing of clients.
This position is responsible for the duties listed below:
Client-Centered Care
- Provide three meals and two-three snacks daily for up to 30 clients.
- Purchase, organize, and rotate food supplies following the first in, first out rule.
- Maintain an orderly and clean kitchen, adhering to cleaning and sanitizing requirements.
- Follow the Food Safety Plan, catering to clients' special dietary needs and preferences.
- Accommodate clients with diet related medical conditions, allergies, religious and / or cultural restrictions.
- Follow the Menu Plan, substitute only as needed, and prepare fresh, minimally processed items.
- Prepare fresh baking for clients.
- Engage in collaborative and supportive interactions with clients and staff.
- Ensure economical shopping for groceries meeting quality expectations.
- Provide feedback to the Manager regarding client progress.
- Ensure adherence to Human Resources and Client Centered related Policy and Procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Reporting & Team Building
- Promote confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and LGBTQ2+ awareness.
- Maintain facility cleanliness according to Health & Safety standards.
- Report safety hazards promptly and participate in safety drills and inspections.
- Engage in clear and effective communication fostering positive work culture.
- Participate in regular meetings with Support Services Manager.
- Stay open to reflecting, debriefing, and processing distressing events or vicarious trauma.
- Exhibit continuous learning to enhance existing skills and develop competencies.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
- Current Food Safe certificate
- Experience in food preparation for groups of up to 30
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Current Class 5 Driver’s License
- Current First Aid & CPR with AED certification
- Naloxone Administration certification
- WHIMS certification
- Self-motivated and capacity to work independently
- Criminal Record Check prior to starting position
- Other training as required
