What it’s like to be a Northbridge Indirect Tax Manager
As part of our collaborative Taxation team, the Indirect Tax Manager leads the full commodity tax function for Northbridge. You’ll oversee monthly and annual tax compliance, ensure adherence to federal and provincial indirect tax legislation, support tax audits, and provide trusted tax advisory across the organization.
You’ll also play a key role in upcoming cross‑training between the direct and indirect tax streams, contribute to tax projects during our new billing system implementation, and act as a subject matter expert for both business partners and senior leadership. This hybrid Toronto‑based role reports directly to the VP and collaborates closely with other leaders and our broader Finance and Reporting teams.
We want your talent!
If you are great at:
Communicating clearly with both technical and non‑technical partners
Providing thoughtful analysis, identifying issues, and offering practical alternatives
Building collaborative relationships across Finance and the business
Exercising sound judgment and supporting teammates with a positive, growth‑minded approach
You have:
5+ years of experience in accounting and taxation, with strong specialization in indirect tax
2+ years of supervisory experience in a financial unit
A CPA designation (preferred), or a master’s degree/equivalent experience
Financial services experience preferred
Strong knowledge of provincial and federal indirect tax legislation
Experience with monthly/annual returns, SAM calculations, and audits
Experience supporting or managing commodity tax audits
Understanding of insurance accounting, including premiums, claims, statutory overdue, collections, reinsurance, and related controls
Strong analytical abilities and mathematical aptitude (ratings, formulae, percentages)
Advanced Excel and solid Microsoft Office skills; familiarity with tax/accounting/insurance systems
We really mean it when we say we put you first. Here are a few ways how:
Hybrid work! Work from home and the office 50/50—giving you the balance, flexibility, and focus you need.
Competitive compensation and support for your financial well‑being through our employee share purchase plan, pension plans, RRSP, and discounts on staff insurance.
Comprehensive well‑being support from day one, including flexible benefits, early‑leave days, wellness programs, and rewards & recognition.
Career development that truly invests in you—from education assistance for CIP, FCIP, CRM or other courses, to leadership development, mentoring, and internal mobility.
A workplace that cares—with donation‑matching, team volunteer days, and support for the causes that matter to you.
We’re committed to pay transparency and fairness. The base salary range for this role is $100,000 - $144,000, which reflects the expected base pay – not the total compensation package. The actual base salary may vary depending on your experience, skills, and alignment with the position. We’re also open to candidates at different levels, so if this range doesn’t quite match your expectations, don’t let that hold you back — we’d still love to hear from you.
This is a real opportunity — we’re actively hiring! If the role sounds like a good fit, we encourage you to apply. Beyond base pay, we offer a robust Total Rewards program that includes benefits, wellness support, and other meaningful perks.
We also want to be transparent about our hiring process. While one of our systems includes AI capabilities, over 99% of our screening is done by real people. We believe in thoughtful, human-centered hiring decisions, and are committed to giving every application the attention it deserves.
