About Us
Centennial Infant and Child Centre (CICC) is a not-for-profit organization supporting children with developmental needs and their families. We provide inclusive early learning, therapeutic, and family-centred programs, including our specialized preschool for children ages 18 months to 4 years, our home-visiting Early Intervention service, including Hospital-to-Home (H2H), and our Child Care Resource Consultation program.
CICC also operates a volunteer program, providing meaningful ways for community members to support our programs and engage with children and families. We are committed to inclusion, collaboration, and helping every child and family reach their full potential.
Position Overview
We are seeking a caring, reliable, and collaborative Educational Assistant to support the delivery of inclusive, developmentally appropriate programming within CICC’s therapeutic preschool.
The ideal candidate brings experience working with young children aged 18 months – 4 years, an understanding of child development, and a commitment to supporting children with developmental delays, medical complexities, or extra support needs.
Reporting to the Managing Supervisor, Preschool Programs and working under the guidance of the Preschool Teacher, the Educational Assistant helps foster a safe, nurturing, and well-coordinated classroom environment. This role provides consistent, responsive support to help ensure children can participate meaningfully in routines and play-based learning.

Employment Type: Part-Time (Permanent)
School Year Schedule: September to June (10‑month work year; salary paid over 12 months)
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am– 12:00pm, and Monday to Thursday, 1:00pm–4:00pm
Start Date: September 2026
Key Responsibilities
Relationship with Children
- Build warm, supportive relationships with children
- Greet children and families at drop‑off and pick‑up
- Provide 1:1 or small‑group support
- Understand each child’s needs as outlined in their Individual Program Plans (“IPPs”) to help them participate meaningfully in routines and activities
Support for Individual Program Plans (IPPs)
- Help implement strategies and accommodations outlined in children’s IPPs
- Provide observations and feedback to the Preschool Teacher to inform IPP updates
- Support volunteers or placement students in carrying out IPP‑related strategies
Classroom Activities & Daily Routines
- Ensure materials are prepared for classroom activities, transitions, and snack times
- Maintain a safe, hygienic, and a calm learning environment
- Support children during routines such as feeding, toileting, diaper changes, and transitions
Equipment & Assistive Devices
- Prepare and organize equipment and assistive devices needed for each child
- Help volunteers and placement students understand how to use seating, equipment, and devices as instructed by the Preschool Teacher or therapists
- Maintain tidy, accessible equipment storage
Team & Classroom Support
- Work collaboratively with Preschool Teachers, therapists, and other support staff
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, team‑based classroom environment
- Serve as part of required staff-to-child ratios and provide active supervision within the classroom team.
Compliance & Professional Practice
- Follow all classroom health and safety procedures in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Toronto Public Health (TPH) requirements, and Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) standards and organizational policies.
- Support the Preschool Teacher in meeting program and regulatory requirements
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Qualifications
- Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent training is an asset
- Experience working with young children in early learning, childcare, or special needs settings
- Knowledge of child development and inclusive, play‑based learning approaches
- Proven ability to follow direction, implement strategies, and work collaboratively within a team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Must meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting (up to 50 lbs.), floor play, stair climbing, and active engagement throughout the day
- Reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to inclusive, child‑centred practice
Required Certifications & Clearances:
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification
- Up-to-date immunization record, including a negative TB test
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual Salary: $24,181.20 (inclusive of Provincial Wage Enhancement)
