THEMUSEUM is seeking an entrepreneurial and results-driven Director of Sales, Rentals & Retail to lead earned revenue growth across admissions partnerships, facility rentals, corporate and community events, group sales, and retail operations.
This senior leadership role is responsible for developing and executing sales strategies that strengthen revenue performance while enhancing the visitor and client experience. Reporting to the CEO and working collaboratively across departments, the Director will oversee a dynamic portfolio that supports public engagement, private events, tourism partnerships, and commercial operations.
The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution, bringing creativity, relationship-building skills, and operational leadership to a fast-paced cultural environment.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Revenue Development
- Develop and implement annual sales and revenue strategies aligned with organizational goals
- Grow revenues through admissions partnerships, tourism initiatives, sponsorship opportunities, group bookings, memberships, and special programs
- Identify and pursue new earned revenue opportunities and strategic partnerships
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and visitor behaviour to inform strategy
Rentals & Events
- Lead the growth and management of facility rentals, corporate functions, weddings, community events, and private experiences
- Oversee sales processes from inquiry through execution in collaboration with internal teams
- Build relationships with event planners, tourism organizations, businesses, schools, and community partners
- Ensure exceptional client service and successful event delivery
Retail Operations
- Provide leadership for retail strategy, merchandising, product development, pricing, and inventory oversight
- Enhance profitability and visitor experience through innovative retail programming and product selection
- Support development of branded merchandise and exhibition-related retail opportunities
Leadership & Operations
- Supervise and mentor staff within sales, rentals, visitor services, and retail functions
- Establish measurable goals, performance indicators, and reporting systems
- Collaborate with Marketing, Development, Programming, Finance, and Operations teams to align organizational priorities
- Contribute to annual budgeting, forecasting, and organizational planning
- Prepare regular revenue and performance reports for senior leadership
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in sales, hospitality, attractions, tourism, events, retail, or cultural organizations
- Proven success in revenue generation, partnership development, and client relationship management
- Strong organizational, negotiation, and communication skills
- Experience managing teams and multiple revenue streams simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to work strategically while supporting day-to-day execution
- Experience with CRM, ticketing, event booking, and POS systems considered an asset
- Passion for arts, culture, innovation, and community engagement
