MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
We are seeking dedicated, student-centered Academic Educators to deliver our small-group literacy and numeracy programs. In this role, you will work directly with small groups of 3-5 students in person. You will use data to customize lesson plans, build strong connections with families, and create an emotionally regulated, supportive environment where every learner can experience success.
Mandatory training will be provided.
We are looking for educators to fill in-person locations throughout the Hamilton and Halton area.
Whether your passion is literacy, numeracy, or both, we want to hear from you! You do not need to teach both subjects to qualify for this role. On your application or cover letter, please simply specify if you are interested in teaching Literacy, Numeracy, or Both.

COMPENSATION:
Individuals with applicable designation (e.g., Ontario Certified Teacher) receive $35.00 per hour.
Individuals without applicable designation receive $30.00 per hour.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Program Manager in implementing and delivering literacy and numeracy programs, facilitating in-person educational sessions at various sites across the Hamilton and Halton regions.
- Uphold the Mission of CDL and its programs and services while conducting oneself in a professional manner as a representative of the Organization
- Create a positive learning environment that encourages relationship-building between the educator and the students
- Analyse assessment data and develop a scope plan with corresponding lesson plans based on the unique needs of the group of students
- Design engaging, structured weekly lesson plans that meet learning objectives, ensuring all materials are submitted for review ahead of the upcoming instructional week.
- Utilize provided organizational resources to facilitate small-group sessions, embedding ongoing informal assessments to track progress and collect required data.
- Remain in frequent communication with the Program Manager to discuss instruction, achievement, and evaluation (e.g., lesson planning, data collection, behavioural concern, safety issue, technology troubleshooting)
- Prepare and submit a comprehensive final report of learning to parents/guardians at the midterm and conclusion of the session to highlight student growth and milestones to be approved by the Program Manager.
- Ensure all required session data is accurately collected and complete all reporting in a thorough and timely manner according to program guidelines.
- Provide proactive and supportive communication throughout the program with both students and their parents/guardians.
- Employ positive behaviour support strategies to manage group dynamics effectively, fostering a safe, encouraging, and emotionally regulated environment for all participants.
- Monitors attendance for students, volunteers, and/or co-op students (if applicable), and follow-ups if there are late or absentee concerns.
- Provide a Certificate of Program Completion to all students who miss less than 3 classes.
- Work to ensure the health and safety of all students and volunteers in the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidates for the position include individuals who have:
- Prior experience working with children and/or youth with learning differences, specifically learning disabilities, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1 and their families.
- Currently pursuing or completed a post-secondary degree/certification in Education, English, Mathematics, Linguistics, STEM disciplines, Child & Youth Work, Social Work, or a related field.
- Bachelor of Education graduates, Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT), reading or math specialists, and advanced students in relevant disciplines are highly encouraged to apply. Equivalent experience working with children in academic settings may be accepted.
- Deep understanding of foundational literacy building blocks (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension) OR core mathematical concepts (number sense, operations, fractions, and early algebra).
- Previous experience facilitating online or in-person programs with a focus on literacy or numeracy instruction is preferred.
- An interest in getting involved in the social services or teaching profession.
- Experience working with Microsoft Suite is an asset but not required.
- Previous experience managing a group of people, such as volunteers, is an asset, but not required
- Reliable transportation to and from the program site within Halton and Hamilton regions.
- Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Flexible hours and in-person delivery of programs during evenings and weekend according to organizational demand.
- Have availability between Monday through Thursday for a minimum of two shifts a week between the hours of 4:00PM – 8:00PM
- All facilitators must arrive at the start time of their scheduled shift and stay for the remainder of their shift unless approved by management.

Pay: $30.00 per hour
