At Daizen Joinery, we don't build cookie-cutter structures. We build super-high-end, legacy timber frames. We are an elite, custom timber frame shop dedicated to precision joinery, traditional hand-craftsmanship, and uncompromising quality. From complex heavy timber trusses to intricate hand-cut mortise-and-tenon joints, our work demands meticulous attention to detail and an obsession with the trade.
We are looking for a Master Handcrafter Carpenter who views woodworking as both a high art and a rigorous science. If you’re happiest with a chisel, slick, or drawknife in hand and live for the fit of a perfectly driven oak peg, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Do
- Traditional Joinery: Hand-cut and fit complex timber joinery (mortise & tenon, dovetails, scarfs, splines) using both traditional hand tools and specialized power equipment.
- Layout & Timber Prep: Interpret timber frame shop drawings, perform accurate timber layout, plane, chamfer, and surface finish heavy timbers.
- Fit-Up & Pre-Assembly: Dry-fit timber components in the shop to ensure tight tolerances before job site delivery and raising.
- Craft Mastery: Work with premium domestic and exotic softwoods and hardwoods (Douglas Fir, White Oak, Cedar, etc.).
- CNC assisted work: Utilize our CNC machine as one of your tools in your tool belt, and add the personal touch to our projects
What We’re Looking For
- Proven Hand Skills: Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy timber framing, fine woodworking, or custom log building.
- Tool Proficiency: Master-level familiarity with hand tools (slick chisels, adzes, hand planes, layout squares) as well as heavy machinery (chain mortisers, beam saws).
- Blueprint Precision: Ability to read and execute complex architectural and structural timber frame drawings with standard-setting accuracy.
- Pride in Ownership: An unyielding standard for work quality—if a joint isn't tight, you're the first person who wants to fix it.
- Team-First Mindset: Ability to collaborate seamlessly with fellow craftsmen in a fast-paced, high-end shop environment.
