The Excavation Company Lead Hand/Foreman oversees daily operations and field activities for a small excavation company. This role is hands-on and involves managing crews, operating & maintaining equipment, schedules, and job performance, while ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget. Preference for locals of Alberni Valley Regional District as relocation will not be provided. Generous benefits and pension package.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
· Plan and coordinate daily jobs and crew schedules
· Ensure projects are completed efficiently and correctly
· Troubleshoot jobsite issues and make quick decisions
· Communicate job details to operators and laborers
· Operation of Heavy equipment to assist Workers
· Communicating with Engineers, professionals as required
· Civil Work planning, blueprint and associated activities
Crew & Equipment Management
· Supervise operators, truck drivers, and laborers
· Assign equipment and ensure proper use
· Schedule maintenance and repairs for equipment and trucks
· Train employees on job expectations and safe work practices
Safety
· Enforce safety rules and jobsite procedures
· Conduct regular safety talks and inspections
· Ensure compliance with OSHA and local regulations
Job Costing & Support
· Track labor hours, equipment use, and materials
· Assist with estimates and bids
· Help control costs to keep jobs profitable
Customer & Vendor Relations
· Communicate with customers, builders, and inspectors
· Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors
· Handle customer questions or concerns professionally
Required Experience & Skills
· Strong background in excavation or construction
· Experience running crews and heavy equipment
· Basic knowledge of estimating, scheduling, and job costs
· Good communication and leadership skills
· Ability to work in the field and office as needed
· Basic Computer Knowledge
Work Environment
· Hands-on role with time split between field and office
· Long hours during peak seasons
· Outdoor work in varying weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications
Must have a Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
First Aid credentials
Ground Disturbance Course completion
Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies
Minimum 10 years experience
Ability to maintain and/or repair equipment
