About Us
Umami Kid is a Japanese pop culture–themed izakaya restaurant located in Uptown Saint John. Created by the team behind Bubbly Cup, our concept brings together ramen, rice bowls, Japanese small plates, sake and a fun anime-inspired setting.
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Full-Time Cook to join our kitchen team and help deliver consistent, high-quality food to our guests.
Position Summary
The Full-Time Cook will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and plating menu items according to Umami Kid’s recipes and standards. This role is ideal for someone with kitchen experience, a strong work ethic, and an interest in Japanese or Asian-inspired cuisine.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items including ramen, rice bowls, appetizers, and Japanese small plates
- Follow recipes, portion sizes, plating standards, and kitchen procedures consistently
- Complete daily food prep and ensure ingredients are ready for service
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, prep areas, and storage areas
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing supplies properly
- Monitor food quality, freshness, and presentation before dishes are served
- Work efficiently during busy service hours while maintaining quality and consistency
- Communicate effectively with kitchen supervisors, management, and front-of-house staff
- Help with cleaning, dishwashing, closing duties, and other kitchen tasks as needed
- Support a positive, respectful, and team-focused work environment
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of kitchen or cooking experience preferred
- Experience with Japanese or Asian cuisine is a strong asset, but not required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow recipes and procedures
- Food Safety Certification is preferred, or willingness to obtain
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
