Position Title: Community Support Worker

Hours of Work: 1 Temporary (until return of incumbent) and 1 Permanent Part-Time Position – 30 hours/week (Monday to Friday)

Salary: $25.95 per hour – Grid 10, Step 1

About the Department - COSMOS
COSMOS supports young individuals on the autism spectrum with highly individualized programming, flexible activities, and tailored transition plans. The program provides a safe, nurturing environment with a sensory room and structured routines using visual cues, sign language, and iPads. Activities focus on skill development, learning, and community involvement, including music, volunteering, fitness, and life skills like baking and computer training. Fun outings and recreational activities enhance the overall experience.
Required qualifications includes the following:
- A diploma in human services or a related field or the equivalent education and experience is required for this position.
- At least one year previous direct program delivery experience within the social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs.
- Candidates must be able to work in various weather conditions and handle physically demanding activities throughout the shift.
- At least 6 month experience working with individuals on the Autistic Spectrum.
- Experience and knowledge in the area of behaviour management and/or Crisis Intervention is a prerequisite
- Experience in supporting adults to communicate using augmentative communication.
- The successful candidate needs to be able to support clients in an aquatic environment, and must have a BC Class 5 driving license and able to drive a small SUV/van size vehicle. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate candidates with international driving licenses.
Other Skills and Abilities
Assess participants strengths and needs, provide skill training, and identify community opportunities in recreation, volunteering, music, and arts. Support inclusion, offer emotional support, and coordinate placements while monitoring progress. Handle emergencies, collaborate with caregivers and agencies, and ensure health and safety standards. Administer medications, assist with personal care, and guide support staff. Strong communication, time management, and networking skills are essential for fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
