The Role
Reporting to the Controller, the Bookkeeper provides hands-on accounting support across multiple entities within the organization. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a structured environment and values accuracy, consistency, and collaboration.
This is a part-time role requiring in-office presence at least one day per week (typically two), with flexibility for hybrid work thereafter.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Month-End
- Maintain accurate financial records across multiple corporate entities.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, amortizations, and intercompany allocations.
- Manage prepaid expenses, fixed assets, lease schedules, and mortgage amortizations.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure supporting documentation is complete.
- Prepare monthly P&L summaries and proformas, ensuring accurate and timely posting.
Accounts Payable & Invoice Review
- Review invoices entered via Continia for correct GL coding, dimensions, and posting groups.
- Verify vendor details, allocations, and project/subledger accuracy prior to posting.
- Reconcile AP subledger to the GL and investigate any discrepancies.
Accounts Receivable & Banking
- Process bank transactions, reconcile bank and credit card accounts, and ensure accuracy.
- Record and reconcile AR activity across rental and intercompany accounts.
- Prepare and post intercompany transfers and monthly reconciliations.
Working Papers & Analysis
- Prepare complete monthly working paper binders for all entities, including reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Identify variances and provide concise analytical commentary.
- Collaborate with the Controller to ensure all month-end deliverables are accurate and complete.
Ad Hoc & Departmental Support
- Assist with audit preparation and year-end schedules.
- Support the Controller with ongoing accounting process improvements.
- Provide coverage and collaboration within the accounting team as needed.
What You Bring
Skills & Qualifications
- 5–10 years of progressive bookkeeping or full-cycle accounting experience.
- Accounting diploma or degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Business Central is a major asset.
- Experience with Continia (automated AP processing) and Jet Reports is an advantage.
- Advanced Excel skills (reconciliations, pivot tables, lookups).
- Solid understanding of accrual accounting, intercompany transactions, and multi-entity environments.
- Experience in real estate, construction, or property management accounting preferred.
- Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
