Position Summary
The External Employment Partnerships & Community Development Coordinator is primarily responsible for identifying, building, and securing strategic
employment partnerships that create meaningful job opportunities for young people in YOUCAN programs.
This highly external, relationship-driven role focuses on developing employer, industry, corporate, and community connections that support youth hiring,
work experience, mentorship, and long-term career pathways, helping YOUCAN maintain its 80%+ youth employment success rate.
Serving as YOUCAN’s lead external employment connector, this role proactively builds new workforce relationships, expands employment pipelines, and
opens doors for youth opportunities. Once partnerships are established, operational management is strategically transitioned to the appropriate internal
department for ongoing stewardship, program delivery, and partner management
This position is primarily community-based, with a strong focus on networking, employer outreach, business development, and relationship generation.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Employment Partnership Development
- Identify, cultivate, and secure employer, corporate, trades, and industry partnerships that directly lead to youth employment opportunities.
- Develop partnerships that provide direct employment placements, work experience opportunities, job shadowing, site tours, mentorship, apprenticeship
pathways, and sector-specific hiring opportunities.
- Work closely with internal employment teams to ensure partnerships are passed onto the correct person to maintain the relationship, coordinate job
placements and work subsites
- Strategically support organizational goals of maintaining 80%+ youth employment and education success outcomes.
Fund Development & Sponsorship Support
- Build and manage a focused portfolio of strategic external relationships that support sponsorship, corporate giving, naming opportunities, and
fundraising initiatives.
- Support donor and sponsorship pipeline development through proactive external outreach.
- Collaborate with the Fund Development Manager on strategic revenue generation opportunities.
Cross-Departmental Relationship Handoff
- Evaluate partnership opportunities and transition active operational relationships to appropriate internal teams for long-term management.
- Ensure strong communication, relationship continuity, and strategic alignment during handoff.
- Maintain select high-value relationships where ongoing strategic oversight is required.
Community Visibility & Strategic Outreach
- Represent YOUCAN at networking events, conferences, business meetings, and community functions.
- Increase organizational awareness and visibility through strategic external engagement.
- Monitor labor market, employer, and funding trends to identify emerging opportunities.
- Cold Calling potential employment partnerships that align with YOUCAN Employment programs.

Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in business development, workforce development, nonprofit management, communications, or related field.
- Minimum 3+ years experience in employment partnerships, workforce development, business development, sponsorship, or external relations.
- Experience working with employers, industry, or employment pathways is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to develop external relationships that generate measurable outcomes.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Working Conditions
- Primarily community-based and externally focused.
- Frequent local travel for employer meetings, networking, and outreach.
- Regular evening and occasional weekend commitments.
- Independent scheduling with strong accountability for outcomes.
- Personal vehicle required.
