The Opportunity
McElhanney is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing Western Canada operations. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of projects including building services, roadway and site lighting, traffic signalization, controls, and site & land development, with opportunities to expand into new and emerging areas as your interests and expertise evolve.
Working closely with our established electrical team and other disciplines across the organization, you will contribute to meaningful projects that shape communities throughout British Columbia and beyond. We are seeking a technically strong, self-motivated professional and effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment and is ready to take on increasing responsibility and leadership.
Our electrical team is a diverse group of engineers and technologists with a wide range of backgrounds, including former Red Seal electricians and internationally experienced professionals who have led large-scale teams and complex projects. The team is geographically distributed across British Columbia and Alberta, leveraging this reach to support projects throughout Western Canada. We place a strong emphasis on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and flexibility in project roles, allowing individuals to grow their skills while delivering high-quality work.
This position may be based out of any McElhanney office in British Columbia. Consideration may be given to exceptional candidates located outside of BC.
What You’ll Do
- Lead electrical engineering design and provide technical oversight for a range of projects, primarily focused on building systems.
- Manage projects in collaboration with client teams, acting as both representative and key project contributor.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior staff, including EITs and technologists.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure project quality and delivery.
What You’ll Bring
- 8-15 years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Registered P.Eng in British Columbia or eligible via inter-jurisdictional transfer.
- Broad project experience across commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings.
- Proficient in power distribution, communications, lighting, life-safety, access controls, and security systems.
- Proficient in utility coordination and building servicing.
- Strong coordination skills with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with drafting in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience in municipal infrastructure, Ministry of Transportation and Transit projects, street lighting, and traffic signals would be an asset.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $130,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
