We are hiring a part-time Registered Nurse (RN) to support physicians and patients in a community medical clinic setting. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who enjoys working in primary care, has strong clinical skills, and is looking to grow with an expanding clinic.
The position will begin as part-time, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role as patient care needs increase.
Job Description
The Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care and clinical support within a community medical clinic environment. The successful candidate will work closely with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to support patient assessments, treatments, procedures, and follow-up care.
The RN should have strong clinical judgment, excellent patient communication skills, and experience with venipuncture/phlebotomy, collection of blood samples for testing, IV therapy, and general outpatient nursing care.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient-focused, safe, and professional nursing care in accordance with best practices and College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
- Support physicians during patient visits, examinations, and minor procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy/venipuncture, and specimen collection.
- Administer and monitor IV fluids and other clinic-approved IV treatments.
- Conduct patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history, medication review, and presenting concerns.
- Administer injections, vaccinations, and other treatments as ordered by a physician.
- Provide wound care, dressing changes, and post-procedure care.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, treatments, chronic disease management, preventative care, and follow-up instructions.
- Assist with chronic disease management in collaboration with physicians.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the clinic’s electronic medical record system.
- Coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, lab requisitions, and diagnostic testing as needed.
- Support infection prevention and control practices throughout the clinic.
- Maintain nursing supplies, equipment, and treatment areas.
- Work collaboratively with physicians, pharmacists, administrative staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in the development of clinic protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and patient care workflows.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Must maintain all professional requirements necessary to practise as a Registered Nurse in Ontario.
- Must have or be able to provide proof of Professional Liability Protection, or other liability insurance/protection required by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred.
- Community clinic, family practice, urgent care, infusion therapy, or outpatient nursing experience is a strong asset.
- Experience with blood collection, lab specimen handling, and IV therapy.
- Experience with wound care, immunizations, chronic disease education, and telephone triage.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment skills.
- Excellent communication and patient teaching skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a clinic environment.
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with EMR systems (preferably OSCAR) is an asset.
- Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, required. Additional languages are considered an asset.
