THE ROLE
We are hiring on‑call Dock Workers / Truck Helpers to support freight operations in a transportation and logistics environment. This role is split between dock work and assisting drivers with loading and unloading freight. Shifts are offered based on operational demand and require flexibility, reliability, and the ability to perform physically demanding work.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
This role includes two main areas of responsibility:
Dock Worker Duties
- Load, unload, move, and handle big and bulky freight on the dock (50–75 lbs)
- Operate a forklift when required (certification is an asset)
- Sort freight onto skids for loading and staging
- Scan, reweigh, and cube freight accurately
- Identify, track, and manage over, short, and damaged (OS&D) freight
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dock area
Truck Helper / Driver Assistance Duties
- Manually unload trucks returning from local and long‑haul routes
- Assist local P&D drivers with loading freight or digging out freight from crowded lanes
- Handle freight both on and off a forklift in tight dock spaces
- Support drivers to ensure freight is loaded safely and efficiently
General Expectations
- Follow all safety procedures and site policies
- Adhere to Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and WHMIS requirements
- Work at a steady pace in a fast‑moving, high‑traffic dock environment
- Be available for on‑call shifts, including weekends and longer shifts when required
HOURS OF WORK:
- Sunday - Thursday; 11pm - 7am or Monday - Friday; days (hours TBD)
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and move freight weighing up to 75 lbs repeatedly
- Comfortable performing manual labour in a physically demanding environment
- Able to work on‑call with short notice when shifts become available
- Forklift experience or certification is an asset, not required
- Previous dock, warehouse, trucking, or general labour experience preferred
- Strong awareness of safety and ability to follow procedures
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Steel‑toe work boots required
- High‑visibility reflective vest required
- Reliable transportation required (location is not on a bus route)
- Criminal background check required prior to employment
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and WHMIS training (can be provided prior to starting)
COMPENSATION
- $19.00/hour + 4% vacation pay
