HR & Operational Excellence Manager

Vision Hollow Metal Limited is one of Canada's leading manufacturers of commercial steel doors and frames. We are seeking an exceptional HR & Operational Excellence Manager who is passionate about people, safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
This is not a traditional HR position.
We are looking for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, spends time on the production floor, builds strong relationships with employees and supervisors, drives accountability, and continuously improves our workplace.
If you prefer sitting behind a desk all day, this role is not for you.
About the Role
Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will lead all Human Resources, Health & Safety, WSIB administration, employee relations, and organizational development initiatives while partnering closely with Operations to improve workplace performance.
You will be expected to take ownership, solve problems independently, develop new processes, coach leaders, and create a culture focused on safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources
- Lead full-cycle recruitment, onboarding and orientation.
- Coach supervisors on employee performance and accountability.
- Manage attendance, progressive discipline, investigations and terminations.
- Support employee relations while maintaining a fair and respectful workplace.
- Ensure compliance with the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, WSIB legislation and applicable employment laws.
- Develop, implement and maintain HR policies and procedures.
- Lead employee engagement and retention initiatives.
WSIB & Disability Management
- Independently manage all WSIB claims from initial reporting through resolution.
- Complete and submit Form 7 documentation accurately and within legislated timelines.
- Coordinate modified work and return-to-work programs.
- Liaise with healthcare providers, employees and the WSIB.
- Manage Functional Abilities Forms, medical documentation and claim strategies.
- Monitor claim costs and identify opportunities to reduce organizational exposure.
- Maintain complete and accurate claim documentation.
Health & Safety
- Lead the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and safety audits.
- Investigate workplace incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs.
- Oversee WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, emergency preparedness and hazard identification.
- Foster a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Maintain a visible presence on the production floor every day.
- Build strong working relationships with employees and supervisors.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, communication and accountability.
- Develop KPIs and management dashboards.
- Analyze HR and safety metrics and present recommendations to leadership.
- Create standardized procedures, policies and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support organizational growth and succession planning.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- Minimum 7 years of progressive HR leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated expertise managing WSIB claims independently.
- Extensive knowledge of Ontario employment legislation.
- Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Experience leading Joint Health & Safety Committees.
- Proven experience conducting workplace investigations.
- Strong policy development and implementation experience.
- Experience coaching supervisors and managers.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- High attention to detail with exceptional follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CHRL designation.
- Health & Safety certification (CRSP, CRST, NCSO or equivalent) considered an asset.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Manufacturing experience within steel, industrial or heavy manufacturing environments.
- Experience with HRIS systems and KPI reporting.
