The Tunneling Company provides specialized, fit-for-purpose tunneling and trenchless construction solutions, including guided boring, auger boring, pipe ramming, down-the-hole hammer, and more. We manage projects from pre-planning and design through to execution, delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions across Western Canada.
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. This role plays a critical part in maintaining and repairing our fleet of heavy equipment, including specialized tunneling machinery, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
This is a unionized position (IUOE Local 115) based in Kamloops, BC, offering competitive wages, overtime opportunities, and long-term career stability.
Compensation & Benefits
- Wage: $65.00 – $70.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy-duty equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and determine root causes
- Repair engines, transmissions, drivetrains, braking systems, and suspension components
- Service and maintain diesel and gasoline-powered equipment Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct pre-start inspections and routine maintenance procedures
- Ensure all equipment operates safely and meets manufacturer specifications
- Maintain cooling, lubrication, and hydraulic systems Specialized Equipment
- Maintain tunneling and trenchless equipment such as TBMs and jacking frames
- Service compressors, generators, and power packs
- Repair pumps, winches, and related machinery
Operational Support
- Perform repairs in shop and occasionally in the field
- Work closely with operations teams to reduce downtime
- Support project timelines through timely maintenance
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete work orders and maintenance records accurately
- Maintain organized service documentation
- Ensure all work meets manufacturer and regulatory standards Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability
- Stay current with evolving technology and repair methods
Qualifications & Requirements
- Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification
- 3–5 years of experience working on heavy equipment
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose complex equipment issues
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically capable of meeting job demands
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional field assignments
Assets (Preferred, Not Required)
- Experience with tunneling or trenchless equipment
- Experience in construction, mining, or industrial environments
