Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager of Inpatient Psychiatry at MHRH, the ECT Nurse plays a critical role in delivering safe, compassionate care to patients undergoing Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for severe mental health conditions. This position involves referral management, assessment and screening, preparing patients for treatment, providing pre- and post-procedure care, monitoring patient safety during the procedure, and supporting recovery. The ECT Nurse works closely with psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal outcomes and patient comfort. Key Responsibilities Referral Management: Receive, review, and screen referrals for the ECT department. Pre-Treatment Care: Educate patients and families about ECT. Obtain informed consent and perform health assessments. Initiate IVs, prepare equipment, and ensure patient readiness. During Treatment: Monitor vital signs and assist physicians as needed. Manage the ECT suite and maintain safety during the brief seizure. Post-Treatment Care: Support patient recovery and monitor for complications (e.g., apnea, hypoxia). Manage side effects such as confusion or memory issues and provide comfort. Collaboration: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and PACU nursing staff. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient care and responses. Outpatient Follow-Up: Conduct assessments and monitor patients post-treatment.

PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Education: Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Minimum of 3 years in an Addiction and Mental Health setting. Current BLS/CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in PACU or Operating Room settings and ACLS certification considered an asset.
