Driller / Driller’s Assistant — Drilling, Blasting & Rock Stabilization
Hard outdoor work. Real machines. This is drilling, blasting and rock stabilization in difficult places — dirty, physical, technical work built around planning, judgement and managing risk. The job is to solve hard problems, control the hazards and get the work done safely. No cowboys. No passengers. Build things that matter. Learn skills most people never get near.
We are a small but growing Nova Scotia company looking for a practical, mechanically minded driller or driller’s assistant.
Our bread and butter is drilling and blasting. We work on quarry blasting, house lots, foundations, infrastructure projects, wind farm work, rock faces, slope stabilization and difficult-access sites.
We are a fully insured operation with 1st Class blasting capability and specialist experience in rock drilling, blasting, slope stabilization and challenging access work.
This is a specialist drilling position. It is outdoor, physical, dirty, technical work involving rock drills, compressors, hydraulics, excavators, climbing, difficult access, planning and safety.
If you are already a driller, we want to hear from you.
If you are not yet a driller but you are mechanically minded, reliable, safety-conscious and serious about learning, we may be willing to train the right person.
The work may include:
- Rock drilling
- Drilling and blasting support under qualified supervision
- Quarry, infrastructure, house lot and foundation work
- Rock face and slope stabilization
- Difficult-access and climbing-related work
- Setting up, maintaining and operating drilling equipment
- Working around compressors, hoses, hydraulics and excavators
- Maintaining and repairing rock drills and site equipment
Some of the work we do is designed to last for generations. Rock anchors, stabilized faces, roads, foundations and infrastructure become part of the landscape.
This is work you can point to years later and say:
“I helped build that.”
When drilling, blasting or infrastructure work is quiet, there is steady fallback work on our campground development site, including earthworks, excavator work, site preparation, drainage, outdoor construction, and later-stage building and carpentry work.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, mechanically minded, safety-conscious, comfortable outdoors, calm around risk, willing to learn and serious about building a career.
Experience with drilling, blasting, quarry work, excavation, heavy equipment, mechanics, construction, forestry, farming, climbing, mining, military or industrial work would be valuable.
For the right person, training and progression may be available, including first aid, safety courses, equipment training, drilling experience, blasting-related development, climbing or rope-access-related training, apprenticeship pathways and other practical qualifications. For the right candidate, degree or diploma support may also be considered.
Pay will depend on experience, ability, tickets, mechanical knowledge and how much training is required.
To apply, send a short message with your experience, tickets/licences, mechanical background, availability and why this type of work interests you.
