Laser Cutter Operator – Job Description
Position Summary:
The Laser Cutter Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC laser cutting machines to cut metal materials according to engineering drawings and production specifications. The operator ensures high-quality finished parts while maintaining safety, productivity, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machines for cutting metal materials.
- Load and unload sheets of carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
- Verify material type, thickness, and dimensions before production.
- Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to ensure accurate cuts.
- Inspect finished parts for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
- Perform basic machine maintenance, cleaning, and routine inspections.
- Replace nozzles, lenses, and consumables as required.
- Troubleshoot minor machine issues and report major problems to maintenance or supervisors.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, and micrometers to verify dimensions.
- Remove burrs and perform light grinding or deburring when required.
- Safely operate material handling equipment such as overhead cranes or forklifts (if certified).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and safety standards.
- Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and quality control policies.
- Accurately complete production records and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with production, quality, and engineering teams to meet production schedules.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience operating CNC laser cutting machines in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other sheet metals.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments and quality inspection procedures.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with CNC machine controls.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Trumpf, Bystronic, Mazak, Amada, Mitsubishi, or similar laser cutting equipment.
- Forklift and overhead crane certification.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment:
- Metal fabrication/manufacturing facility.
- Exposure to machinery, metal dust, noise, and moving equipment.
- Must follow all health and safety regulations at all times.
Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour
