Job Overview
BOKU is a busy and growing Japanese restaurant located in Toronto’s Distillery District, serving ramen, sushi, and beverages to both local guests and tourists. During the summer season, our patio opens and business volume increases significantly, with a strong demand for sushi and hot Japanese dishes.
We are currently seeking a skilled and reliable Kitchen Staff who is experienced not only in sushi preparation, but also in cooking a variety of Japanese hot dishes. This role requires versatility, speed, and strong attention to quality in a fast-paced kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and present sushi rolls, sashimi, and nigiri to a high standard
- Assist with preparation of Japanese hot dishes (e.g., ramen, curry, and other kitchen items)
- Support daily operations across both sushi and hot kitchen stations as needed
- Ensure consistency, quality, and food safety standards are maintained at all times
- Manage prep, portioning, and ingredient quality (fish, rice, sauces, etc.)
- Assist with inventory control, ordering, and minimizing food waste
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a Japanese restaurant
- Strong skills in sushi preparation (rolls, sashimi, knife work)
- Hands-on experience with Japanese hot kitchen (ramen, curry, or similar dishes)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards in Ontario
- Strong work ethic, teamwork, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Japanese kitchen experience
- Experience in multi-station kitchens (sushi + hot line)
Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
