Purchasing Analyst
Position Summary
The Purchasing Analyst is responsible for sourcing, analyzing, and procuring materials and components required for manufacturing and project execution. This role works closely with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams to interpret engineering drawings, create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), obtain supplier quotations and lead times, source new materials and vendors, and ensure timely procurement of materials at the best value. The ideal candidate has experience in a manufacturing environment and possesses strong knowledge of wood products, metal materials, hardware, and fabrication processes.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and qualify suppliers for wood, metal, hardware, and other manufacturing materials.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules.
- Issue purchase orders and manage procurement activities based on production schedules and project requirements.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and monitor supplier performance for quality, cost, and delivery.
- Identify alternative suppliers and materials to support cost reduction and supply continuity initiatives.
- Resolve supplier-related issues, including delays and quality concerns.
BOM Development & Engineering Review
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Create accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) from engineering drawings and product specifications.
- Verify material quantities, dimensions, finishes, hardware, and manufacturing requirements.
- Review engineering changes and update BOMs accordingly.
- Purchase materials and components against BOMs while ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Material & Manufacturing Knowledge
- Utilize knowledge of wood products, sheet goods, lumber, laminates, veneers, and related materials.
- Apply knowledge of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, tubing, sheet metal, and fabricated metal components.
- Understand manufacturing processes including woodworking, metal fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and finishing.
Cost Analysis & Planning
- Prepare detailed material cost estimates for new and existing products.
- Monitor inventory levels and forecast purchasing requirements to support production demands.
- Track and report on purchasing metrics, supplier performance, cost savings, and procurement lead times.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Production, Project Management teams to ensure material requirements are met.
- Communicate material availability, lead times, and procurement risks to stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within purchasing and supply chain processes.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field an asset.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
