Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Housekeeping is responsible for overseeing all housekeeping staff and supervisors, ensuring exceptional cleanliness standards for guest rooms, public areas, public washrooms, lobby space and exterior street frontage. The successful candidate will have a progression of Rooms Operations experience in a luxury hotel environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in leading 75 (supervisors, room attendants, housepersons, night cleaners and laundry).
- Lead the department in the absence of the Director of Housekeeping.
- Maintain knowledge and compliance of all policies, service procedures and standards.
- Produce the weekly schedule and maintain a vacation approval system.
- Demonstrate awareness and compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Manage the hotel’s cleanliness quality control program, including inspection of guestrooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas.
- Assist with the inventory and purchasing of guest amenities, cleaning supplies, linens and staff uniforms.
- Oversee staff development, including coaching and performance management.
- Collaborate with Front Office to ensure guest concerns are addressed promptly & professionally.
- Analyze guest feedback and inspection reports to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
- Assist with recruitment, interviews and training for all new housekeeping employees.
- Work with Maintenance teams to maximize room availability each day.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity in Housekeeping.
- Accreditation in Hospitality, Business Administration or equivalent experience is considered an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of Hotel and Housekeeping operations and systems
- Previous experience as designated departmental trainer.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to motivate staff and positively grow team culture.
- Energetic, self-motivated and willing to challenge the status quo.
- Able to sit, stand and walk for long periods time.
- Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up 11.5 kilograms (25 pounds).
- Competent in handling sensitive issues for employees or guests with diplomacy and confidence.
- Knowledge of WorkSafe BC (WCB), WHMIS and safety procedures.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet business needs, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
