Our Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity available for a permanent, full time (40 hours per week) Group Leader on our day shift in our Restock department at our Thorold Distribution Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supporting the Restock team, driving performance and fostering a positive, engaged, values-driven and safe work environment.
Main responsibilities:

Working day shifts (5 shifts per week) as assigned, arriving on time and ready to work. This role requires a regular weekly Saturday shift and flexibility to support operational needs, including arriving early/staying beyond standard shift hours, and working holidays as required

Understanding and tracking your team's annual, monthly, and weekly production needs, workflow and KPIs, and collaborating with the Operations Manager to proactively review them

Submitting weekly reports on production, workflow, attendance, and overall productivity to the Operations Manager

Coaching, mentoring, and developing Team Leaders and Associates through individual training, group sessions, and formal onboarding programs, partnering with Operations leadership and People & Culture as appropriate

Being agile in task delegation and team member assignments

Conducting performance management activities including annual reviews, semi-annual coaching sessions, probation reviews, and when necessary, formal corrective action procedures in partnership with Operations leadership and People & Culture

Completing daily Leader Standard Work (LSW) tours to observe operations, collect team feedback, and document issues for follow-up
-
Ensuring team compliance with company policies, procedures, and SOP updates through clear communication and ongoing training
-
Promoting a clean, organized, safe and supportive team environment and ensuring all team members complete timely safety and compliance training in accordance with Book Depot Inc.'s Health and Safety Program

Managing work schedules, time-off requests, and shift coverage for your team
-
Leading team meetings and conducting department inspections, as appropriate
-
Maintaining collaborative relationships and clear and timely two-way communication with Operations leadership, your People & Culture business partner, and other key stakeholders

Identifying and participating in process improvements, including Lean and other projects
-
Identifying and resolving issues impacting your team’s engagement and performance
-
Regularly lifting totes and boxes that weigh approximately 45 lbs.

Working effectively and conscientiously with your team and completing book-handling tasks that require all-day standing and repetitive movements including bending, squatting, and lifting

Maintaining Book Depot Inc.'s standards, productivity, and accuracy levels
-
Using our warehouse management computer software to ensure the accuracy of our inventory and/or customer orders

Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
-
Completion of grade 12 education or equivalent
-
You are honest and have integrity — you don't cut corners ethically
-
Strong leadership and people management skills with experience in coaching, training, mentoring, performance management, conflict resolution, and building collaborative relationships. Experience within a warehouse setting is an asset

You are flexible/adaptable and can adjust quickly to — and cope with — changing priorities and conditions
-
Good understanding of computer programs (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, ADP, WMS, generative AI tools, etc.), with the ability to build and run reports and draw on insights and trends from data

Strong judgment and ability to make sound decisions and problem-solve in a fast-paced, dynamic setting
-
Excellent communication skills and professional tone (verbal and written), with dexterous typing and strong administrative skills
-
Goal-oriented, with growth mindset
-
Strong attention to detail, identifying and sharing continuous improvement opportunities

Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment

Ability to stand and walk, or bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl, throughout your shift
