About This Opportunity:
Simard has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our Vancouver Division; Simard Westlink Inc., located in Richmond, BC. The HRBP plays a key role in supporting the division's workforce and operational goals. This position combines hands-on HR support with strategic collaboration across departments and with the Head Office. The HRBP fosters a positive work environment, ensures compliance with company policies and relevant legislation, and contributes to employee engagement and organizational success.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle recruitment and onboarding for unionized and non-unionized positions, including workforce planning, interviews, offers, new hire orientation, and successful integration.
- Coordinate driver onboarding and compliance requirements, including fuel cards, Dangerous Goods certification, port passes, equipment distribution, and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage employee relations by coaching managers, handling grievances, conducting workplace investigations, administering progressive discipline, and executing employee terminations in accordance with company policies, employment legislation, and the collective bargaining agreement.
- Prepare HR documentation, including employment confirmation letters, disciplinary and termination documents, and other employee-related correspondence. Respond to employee inquiries, maintain employee records, and coordinate personal information updates with the Head Office.
- Partner with the Head Office and senior leadership on employee relations matters, HR policy development, job descriptions, and escalated HR issues.
- Administer employee leaves of absence, including sick leave, disability, parental leave, workplace injuries, and return-to-work programs. Coordinate benefit payments during leaves to ensure timely processing and prevent delays.
- Oversee WorkSafeBC claims, injury documentation, and driver compliance programs while liaising with external agencies and service providers.
- Support Health & Safety initiatives by participating in committee meetings, monitoring incident reports, coordinating first aid training and emergency drills, and promoting a safe work environment.
- Serve as the primary HR contact for union-related matters, ensuring compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and fostering positive labour relations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Human Resources – a combination of education and relevant work experience will also be considered
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field;
- Experience working in the transportation or logistics industry (an asset)
- Experience working in a unionized environment (an asset)
- Experience with Pay Transparency Reporting (an asset)
- CPHR designation or working toward certification (an asset)
- Excellent knowledge of British Columbia employment laws, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across departments and teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Detail-oriented and organized, able to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
