Role
Reporting directly to the Purchasing Director, the Buyer (Power Tools) manages the product mix of power tools available to IHL Retail and Corporate customers, ensuring alignment with market trends and customer demand. The Buyer sources new product streams, establishes new vendor relationships and develops effective procurement strategies. The Buyer serves as a subject matter expert, demonstrating progressive knowledge of cost control functions and processes for multiple assigned projects. The Buyer is responsible for managing the Company’s specialized and exclusive product portfolio.
As a key member of the Purchasing organization, the Power Tools Buyer curates a customer centric product assortment, while seeking to deliver the highest profit margin possible. The Buyer drives profitability by creating and maintaining a product assortment that yields high profit margins, while maintaining competitive pricing.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Works with leadership to select vendors, suppliers, products, and brand strategies
- Develops sell-thru strategies (Launch price, MAPP price, in-store price, bulk price, promotional price, custom programs, bid price, quotation)
- Manages local and international vendors, regarding submission of purchase orders, tracking shipments, maintaining accurate ETAs, resolving invoice and receiving discrepancies
- Strategically plans out and deploys new product launches and the assignment of new vendors
- Acts as the main point of contact for all product launches
- Develops an efficient and accurate system for monitoring all open purchase orders
- Works with the inventory management team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products
- Assists the Sales organization with maintaining proper inventory levels of products deployed on a regular basis
- Assesses, monitors, evaluates & implements competitive marketplace data analytics in line with business & industry activity
- Develops pricing strategies designed to drive incremental revenue
- Evaluates and builds upon personal network of vendor relationships
- Negotiates pricing & procurement for products directly with vendors
- Seeks out new vendor opportunities and expands existing vendor relations
- Identifies process challenges and makes appropriate recommendations for innovative solutions and corrective actions to achieve desirable results
- Designs project plans and implements functions to collect and monitor documents with respect to the Company’s needs and expectations and develops contract negotiations appropriately.
- Places Purchase Orders for stocked SKUs in accordance with category management
- Manages backlog report for assigned supplier(s)
- Reconciles Purchase Order costs / AP discrepancies with suppliers
- Rectifies receiving and shipment issues on drop ship / warehouse orders
- Cancels open Purchase Orders for discontinued products
- Negotiates price match with suppliers in accordance with backorder management strategy
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- 5+ years of product development, retail purchasing or category management experience
- 5+ years of product knowledge related to corded power tools, cordless power tools, pneumatic power tools, or gas power tools
- Experience working in a multi-sales channel: distribution, retail, online, B2B, and B2C environments
- 5+ years of experience with Purchasing Contracts
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel for compiling, analyzing and presenting large SKU sets and complex data
