Position Summary
The Sales Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service within the Building Materials department, with a specialized focus on pine boards, interior trim, interior doors, vapour barrier, and wood panelling. This role requires strong product knowledge, the ability to assess customer needs, and a commitment to maintaining an organized, well-stocked, and customer-ready sales floor.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales
- Greet customers promptly and offer knowledgeable assistance in selecting pine boards, trim, interior doors, vapour barrier, and wood panelling.
- Provide accurate product information, including grades, types, sizes, pricing, and installation considerations.
- Assist customers with project-based solutions and recommend complementary products.
- Generate sales through active engagement, follow-up, and upselling where appropriate.
Product Knowledge & Expertise
- Maintain strong knowledge of dimensional lumber, finishing lumber, mouldings, prehung and slab interior doors, building envelope materials, and decorative paneling.
- Stay current on product changes, inventory updates, and seasonal offerings.
- Understand building code considerations related to vapour barriers and interior finishing materials.
Merchandising & Inventory
- Ensure displays, racking, and product areas are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Assist with unloading, pricing, and labeling merchandise.
- Identify low-stock items and communicate replenishment needs to the department lead or inventory team.
- Maintain accurate bin locations and signage for easy customer navigation.
Operational Support
- Process customer orders, special orders, and quotes accurately and efficiently.
- Assist in pulling lumber and millwork orders for customer pickup or delivery.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper lifting techniques and equipment use.
- Support store housekeeping standards to ensure a safe shopping environment.

Qualifications
- Previous retail or building materials experience preferred, especially in lumber, millwork, or construction-related roles.
- Strong knowledge of wood products, mouldings, interior doors, and building materials (or willingness to learn).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Comfortable with physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in indoor/outdoor areas.
- Basic computer skills for order entry, pricing checks, and inventory lookups.
