Job Overview
The Village of Lumby has an immediate opening for an exciting opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated individual to join our municipal team. The incumbent will exercise skills within the parks and recreation facilities. This position involves a combination of indoor and outdoor work year-round and is subject to unusual temperature changes. The incumbent will work out of the Pat Duke Arena from September to March and the local parks from April to August, annually.
JOB OPPORTUNITY: Under the direction of the Foreman, the Arena Operator 2 maintains parks, playgrounds, playing fields, and irrigation systems, performs tree maintenance and cemetery operations; operating related equipment, maintains arena ice surface using the Zamboni and other equipment, custodial, maintenance and repair duties and snow clearing.

Rate of Pay: As per the Village of Lumby AND International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 115 Collective Agreement, currently $35.32 Arena Operator 2 plus a competitive benefit package (after 90-day probation)
Days/Hours: 40-hour work week; Shifts vary; Evenings and weekends plus possibly some overtime
The ideal candidate for this position must have:
- Grade 12 Diploma or G.E.D.
- Class 5 Drivers license
- Refrigeration Operator Certificate (formerly 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate – Refrigeration Endorsement) as recognized by the BC Boiler & Pressure Vessel Safety Branch.
The following additional qualifications/experience considered an asset:
- Pool Operators Certificate – Level I
- Arena icemaker Certificate
- Air brake endorsement
