The Position
Norcada is currently looking for a Mechanical and Assembly Engineer to support the design, manufacturing, and testing of our new products. The main responsibilities in this position include mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and managing mechanical and electrical component manufacturing for a variety of applications.
This position reports directly to the Director of Instrument Assembly and Manufacturing, who directs our range of electron and x-ray microscopy and spectroscopy solutions, vacuum products and systems, and internally required mechanical fixtures. We are seeking individuals with a proven track-record in developing 3D designs, material selection, manufacturing, and project plans. This is a full time, permanent position and provides medical and pension benefits.
Key Responsibilities:• Design, prototype, and manufacture devices and components for vacuum and ultra-high vacuum applications and microanalysis.• Provide mechanical design and assembly support to various teams and product lines.• Develop product testing processes for prototypes via Design of Experiment.• Perform feasibility assessments and design checks using analytical tools 3D and FEA Modelling.• Create products, manufacturing and assembly plans for small and medium size product families.• Support product installations and customer support.• Coordinate people, projects, and development activities in order to support our world-renowned delivery excellence.
Qualification and Experience:• Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related fields (BSc, MSc, PhD).• Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant fields to the job description. Industry experience and/or MSc or PhD level project experience expected.• Eligible to work as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of Alberta.• Experience with mechanical design, CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion360), developing manufacturing/machining drawings, GD&T, and general FEA analysis for feasibility assessments.• Experience with prototyping and 3D printing techniques.• Hands-on skills with mechanics, basic hand tools, subtractive and additive manufacturing techniques, electronics assembly, and high/ultra high vacuum systems is desired.• Experience with Characterization tools (CMM, SEM, ZYGO, AFM, VASE, etc.) would be considered an asset.• A team player with great communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work in a fast-paced technical environment.
