Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Sonographer to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures using ultrasound technology, providing essential information to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Duties
- Conduct ultrasound examinations on patients, ensuring high-quality images are obtained for accurate diagnosis.
- Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and ensuring their comfort.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and contribute to patient care plans.
- Maintain accurate records of procedures performed, including patient history and imaging results.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain equipment in optimal working condition.
- Stay updated on advancements in ultrasound technology and techniques.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Sonography program or equivalent training.
- Certification by a recognized professional organization (e.g., C.M.R.I.T.O).
- Proficiency in medical terminology is essential for effective communication within the healthcare team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on patient care and comfort.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a busy clinical setting.
Education, Training and Experience
- 1 year of recent experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
- Graduate of a recognized program in Diagnostic Medical Adult Sonography.
- Minimum of 1-year on-the-job experience (placement training considered).
- Active membership with C.M.R.I.T.O.
- Certification in Cardiac Imaging and adult echocardiography.
- Experience following Cardiac Care Network protocols for adult sonography.
- Experience performing full protocol Resting Echos and Stress Echos
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to independently perform Echos and Stress Echos as per CCN protocol.
- Knowledge of diagnostic imaging information systems.
- Technical thoroughness in inputting information into the PACS system.
- Basic troubleshooting of GE Vivid systems (an asset).
- Experience doing contrast echo (an asset).
- Ability to prepare accurate reports for physician interpretation.
- Effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving, critical thinking, and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
- Relating effectively to patients with exceptional bedside manners.
- Initiative and judgment appropriate for the position.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions.
