The General Accountant is a key member of the accounting and finance team, responsible for delivering timely, accurate, financial analysis and support to the Controller. This role combines financial reporting, job-level analysis, general accounting entries, reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable support. Key requirements are strong accounting knowledge, experience in repair service industry, cost accounting, and excellent analytical and communication skills. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in accounting principles and practices, with proficiency in various accounting software. These roles are crucial for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing insightful financial analysis to support business decisions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The General Accountant will be responsible for the following:
· Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements.
· Prepare monthly journal entries as required, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts.
· Support in managing and processing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable entries.
· Analyze and monitor Project Costs with a focus on key financial KPIs including profitability by project, margins, overhead utilization, and cash flow – 5 KPIs for job costs (labour, material, trucking, Subcontractors & Equipment)
· Support Operations on reports as required.
· Calculate Work in Progress entries by Project to support Monthly financials.
· Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support financial decision-making
· Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
· Perform account reconciliations, including bank reconciliation, to maintain accurate financial records.
· Calculate and prepare month end journal entries and necessary accruals based on monthly activity.
· Complete assigned balance sheet reconciliations
· Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support for finance initiatives.
· Conduct account analysis to identify discrepancies or areas for improvement in financial processes.
· Prepare month end HST, QST and Corporate Tax filings/payment requisitions.
· Maintain company fixed assets and depreciation.
· Generating and distributing month end Financial Statements and various reporting packages.
· Perform P&L variance analysis to budget and prior year with detailed explanations of key drivers.
Mandatory Requirements:
· Minimum of three years of experience as general accountant or similar role is required.
· Attention to detail and accuracy.
· Problem-solving and decision-making
· Strong knowledge of bookkeeping practices and principles of corporate finance.
· Strong ability to maintain P & Ls.
· Able to complete multiple sets of "books" and complete intercompany transfers.
· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
· Experience with auditing procedures and compliance regulations.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Bilingual (French) is an asset
· Utilize accounting software. Sage 50 and Quick Books an asset.
· Advanced Excel skills needed for reporting.
Pay: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
