People and Culture Coordinator
Onsite, 9 Month Contract
The Organization
Since 1981, Ronald McDonald House Toronto has served as a place to call home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. Ronald McDonald House Toronto encompasses a House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury. The families we serve come from throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world.
We are looking for a People and Culture Coordinator to join our growing team at our House located in downtown Toronto at 240 McCaul Street.
The Role
This role will report to the Manager, People and Culture, and will support a variety of People & Culture and volunteer engagement functions, ensuring a positive, inclusive, and engaged workplace. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you’ll support day-to-day HR operations, help recruit and onboard new team members, and coordinate initiatives that strengthen engagement across Ronald McDonald House Toronto locations.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced People & Culture team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that supports a growing organization with 24/7 operations. This role offers exposure to a broad range of human resources functions and the chance to contribute to initiatives that support our employees and organizational goals. The regular hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities Include
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment and onboarding for employees and volunteers
- Schedule interviews, conduct reference checks, prepare offers, and manage job postings
- Track compliance requirements (e.g., background checks, certifications)
- Facilitate onboarding sessions, prepare training materials, and support payroll setup
- Monitor candidates’ experience, collect data, and make recommendations for improvement
HR Administration & Systems Support
- Maintain HR data in HRIS & payroll (Payworks), and volunteers management (Volgistics)
- Support with payroll preparation and keeping employees information up-to-date
- Ensure data integrity, prepare reports, and recommend process improvements
- Support HRIS upgrades and enhancements to optimize efficiency & workflows
Employee & Volunteer Engagement
- Help plan and deliver recognition events, wellness programs, and appreciation activities
- Support logistics and communications for staff and volunteer initiatives
- Manage the first line of communication and query with staff, including P&C inbox)
- Track participation and gather feedback to continuously improve programs
Training, Development & Health & Safety
- Coordinate training sessions, registrations, materials, and compliance records
- Support health & safety training initiatives and related record-keeping
- Occasionally deliver presentations (orientation, HRIS training, etc.)
Policy & Process Improvement
- Assist with drafting and updating HR Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Support P&C projects that enhance organizational culture and the volunteer experience
QUALIFICATIONS
Ronald McDonald House Toronto understands that for any role, it’s possible that no one person will possess all of the desired qualifications. The following is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important to bring to the position and/or develop while in the role.
Education & Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in HR coordination or administration
- Diploma or degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
- Experience with HRIS/payroll systems preferred
- CHRP designation (or working toward it) is an asset
Requirements, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of HR functions (recruitment, onboarding, training) is necessary for the success of the role
- Updated knowledge of the ESA and Human Rights legislation is key
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with excellent time-management skills
- Tech-comfortable and curious — eager to learn and leverage new systems
- Strong communicator with a collaborative approach and people-first mindset
- Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Customer-service oriented with a solutions-driven approach to HR activities.
The successful candidate will need to undergo a successful reference check and a satisfactory background check.
