Summary of Position
Abalone Construction is a privately owned company with over 40 years specializing in heavy civil construction in a variety of markets including Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Roadbuilding, and Land Development.
We are looking to add an experienced Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician to our Edmonton Shop team. Under the general direction of the HET Foreman, the Heavy Equipment Technician is a core resources in our field operations providing quality workmanship in preventative maintenance and applying technical knowledge to trouble shoot equipment and identify necessary repairs. Some travel may be required to repair equipment in the field.
Role and Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections and repair for heavy equipment with minimal supervision (Excavators, Motor Scrapers, Dozers, Motor Graders, Articulated rock trucks, Packers, Wheel Loaders)
Rebuild Components such as Engine, Transmissions, Pumps, Hydraulic cylinders, Valves.
Wide knowledge of the CAT, Cummins, Deere, Komatsu,
Identify and repair deficiencies in a timely manner
Operate a forklift or overhead crane as needed
Evaluate parts for reuse, repair or replacement
Adhere to workplace safety policies and regulations, which include but is not limited to FLRA, JSA, JHA & PPE requirements
Show continuous effort to improve operations by decreasing turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with other members of the team
Analyze, troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems
Participate in maintaining shop cleanliness and organization, which includes loading/unloading, storage and maintenance of equipment and tools
Maintain shop tools, equipment
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Training and Education
Journeyman Mechanic license paired with several years’ experience in a heavy equipment operation
Familiarity with the following vendor systems: CAT SIS, E.T. Deere Service Advisor, Cummins Insite and other electronic diagnostic systems
Ability to work both in a team and individually in a fast-paced environment
Possess valid driver’s license, CSTS 2020 and WHMIS 2015
Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics, electrical and diagnostics
Experience with routine preventative & corrective maintenance operations
Able to complete paperwork (e.g., service reports, repair documentation, timesheets, etc.) correctly and in a timely manner
Be able to demonstrate assertiveness, critical thinking, self-motivation with strong personal work practices
Be able to work effectively in a team environment while exercising good judgment, common sense and conducting oneself in a professional manner
Self-control under pressure and maintain a positive attitude towards fellow employees
Good interpersonal and oral communication skills
Ability to successfully manage heavy workloads with multiple priorities that can change with minimum notice
Excited to learn about new methods, processes, material & equipment
Own standard tools of the trade
Willing to work overtime
Working Conditions
This position could be office or project based and involve frequent visits to the field for repairs. This position will require physically demanding work in different positions (kneeling, standing, lifting, etc.), as well as periodic periods of sitting/typing while performing computer related tasks. This position will require 50 + hours per week, working 7:00am - 5:30pm.
