Lathe Set Up Machinist who can setup/program 2-Axis Mazak CNC lathe machines using Mazatrol programming. Deals directly with immediate Lead Hand, co-workers and team members; engages in exchanges of factual information and provides some explanation in a problem-solving capacity; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, require exchanging factual information and providing some explanation.
Responsibilities
- Follow quality management system policies and procedures as per AS 9100 International Standard
- Maintain and fill out in-process inspection sheets for every job.
- Deburr first off and production parts where possible.
- Ability to recognize production problems such as out-of-tolerance Machining, poor finishes, and are able to correct them.
- Good Inspection Skills and Blueprint reading skills with ability to use all shop inspection tools.
- Good Troubleshooting skills.
- Program and set up 2-Axis CNC Lathes with Mazatrol controls.
- Review blueprints, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations, and/or setup operations.
- Create easy to follow setup sheets that include stock material size, work holding/fixtures, tools required, and a breakdown of each operation and how it is to be performed.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate various machine factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
- Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
- Maintains a production efficiency of 75% or higher.
- Maintains a First Pass Acceptance rate of 60% or higher on repeat jobs.
- Perform daily maintenance duties and/or notify supervisor of any equipment-related issues that may require attention.
- Maintain clean and orderly work area.
- Comply with all company policies, rules, guidelines and behavior expectations.

- Able to work with minimal supervisor.
- Fill out records, work orders or production related records, as required.
- Require close visual attention while work is in progress to prevent damage to parts or machine.
- Test and calibrate parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and products specifications.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree or diploma from College or vocational school in CNC machining is strongly desired and most preferred.
- 5+ years of lathe machining experience as a machinist (preferred).
- Able to self-organize and follow instructions independently,
- Able to read and interpret part drawings, specifications and requirements.
- Ability to consistently run good parts that meet production standards
- Strong skills and aptitude in math.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawing, specifications and determine dimensions and tolerances.
- Ability to program CNC 2-Axis lathes in MAZATROL programming language.
- Independent in selecting methods and tooling for machining components.
- Skilled in the use of measuring tools and equipment (micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, thread gauges, and plug gauges, air gauges, and optical comparator).
- Ability to create custom fixtures.
- Highly organized with a keen eye for details.
- Ability to work with small pieces (Hand dexterity).
- Manual dexterity and sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching and crouching.
- Lifting and/or exerting of force up to 50 pounds frequently and team lifting heavier items.
- Visual acuity to complete precision machining and to read printed and electronic documents.
