Job Overview
The goal of the Halifax WAC is to Educate, Agitate, and Organize workers to improve the lives of low-wage and marginalized workers in our community. We are seeking an experienced Fundraiser to join our organization’s outreach team to lead fundraising efforts during our 8-week organizing and fundraising drive. Successful applicants may also have an opportunity to engage in community organizing initiatives alongside our legal servicing team.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies throughout an 8-week fundraising drive
- Street canvassing and phone banking to potential donors. The fundraiser position involves at least 4 hours per day fundraising through a variety of methods - there are no fundraising quotas.
- Doing direct outreach and phone banking to identify and sign up new members to the Halifax WAC
- Manage and update donor databases, including experience with Nationbuilder CRM
- Plan and execute fundraising events, and outreach initiatives, in collaboration with the organizing team, board, and executive director
- Collaborate with organizers and the legal servicing team to promote our services and drive donations towards our programs and services
- Conduct research on funding opportunities, grant prospects, and community partnerships
Qualifications
- Must be passionate about workers’ rights
- Must have experience fundraising and doing direct outreach to drive membership uptakes and sign up donors - grant writing-type fundraising is also an asset
- No formal training or education is required - lived experience is considered education and an asset.
- The role is primarily self directed, with large-scale goals and timelines created collaboratively with your supervisors. A good candidate will enjoy working in a self-paced environment.
- Experience in organizing, activism, social movements, law reform, or the labour movement is an asset.

This job is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, as such, an eligible candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.
The length of guaranteed full-time employment is 8 weeks, successful candidates must commit to working the full 8 week term. There is potential to continue part-time employment after the term, individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Pay: $29.40 per hour
